It’s actually born out of three years I spent writing plot synopsis and product descriptions for Videolog, then the “bible” of the DVD industry in terms of release information (Muze Europe bought the database, so you can still find some of those descriptions on eBay and elsewhere).
Forced to write neutral synopses for DVDs I’d not seen, five days week, led to a need for an outlet for more irascible scribblings. First it was on livejournal, but when the old UK anime forum “Anime-England”, or “A-Eng” as it had become shortened to, was looking to rebrand I suggested “Awesome Engine” as a new name. Anime-England died without rebranding, so I kept the name for myself and started this website.
Due to that origin it tends to veer towards discussion of anime, but when I do have something to say about comedy, music, comics and occasionally professional wrestling, they’ll get posted here too.
