The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia
Greg Dulli’s predatory falsetto croon + Mark Lanegan’s sound of a tomb door opening = a better album than Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Dig Lazarus Dig (which is fine btw, this is just better). It’s taken the pair ages to get round to doing anything with this concept, so it’s nice that the finished results are so boss. Are there that many acts nowadays, outside of hip hop & boy bands, that have two male vocalists? None spring readily to mind outside of Maximum The Hormone, and you aren’t going to see the male vocalists there harmonising.
Great album, totally lives up to Dulli’s promise of “Satanic Everly Brothers”. Get it.
And now an aside:
I’ve now been hooked on MGMT just on one listen to their “Time To Pretend” single, so their album needs to be checked out next.
