#95 – Haikara-san ga Tooru

Haikara-san ga Tōru – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Haikara-san ga Tōru (はいからさんが通る, Haikara-san ga Tōru?) is a popular Japanese comedy/drama manga series by Waki Yamato and a 42-episode anime TV series adaptation of the manga produced by the Nippon Animation studio in 1978 and 1979. The title translates into English as Here Comes Miss Modern or Fashionable Girl Passing By; in 1920s Japan, haikara (“high collar”) was slang for a person who was slavishly trendy and fully embraced the tide of Western values and customs that clashed with traditional Japanese society.

I'd never heard of this. Thankfully '70s shoujo manga/anime, particularly those which got a continental Europe release, attract the sort of fans who will write an extensive wikipedia entry on them. Go take a look at that link up there, it'll tell you plenty.

But it won't show you this clip of the opening and end credits!

The bassline on that opening is quite interesting compared to the rest of the song. Shame the opening animation (such that there is) is monumentally unimpressive compared to the other shows so far in this list. And the ending animation isn't that much better.
