HATE FUN 2004! Phoenix

2004 was the 15th anniversary of Tezuka’s death, and there’s a couple of big adaptations that came out that year, both of which got ratings that most shows would be jealous of. First up was Ryousuke Takahashi’s 13-part adaptation of Phoenix, Tezuka’s life’s work about a working man’s club in Bolton* reincarnation.

Media Blasters released it on DVD and can now be found in a very reasonably priced box set. Seems to be under reviewed, so I’m struggling to build a consensus opinion as to whether it’s worth buying. On paper it is, but the scale of the task in hand makes me wonder how much of a success it was.
