HATE FUN 2003! Submarine Super 99
Your recommended dose of Matsumoto.
The Japanese save the world from an underwater empire using, of course, WW2 era technology (the 99 of the title refers to not just the titular submarine but also the Type 99 rifle). Compare the now near cookie cutter Matsumoto visuals of the anime to the original 1970-72 manga:
Obviously the Matsumoto look is pretty much a brand in itself, but I can’t help this would be a lot more fun if the show was in that looser style.
