If MMORPGs involved this much standing around talking and indulging in existential angst, they’d be much less popular than they actually are. Despite that disjoint from reality, folks seemed to like this, at least to begin with. Being the right show at the right time, good character designs and great music probably helped.

    Good call on the soundtrack. I have the whole album! It’s amazing. In fact, it spurred my compulsive downloading of all soundtracks for each anime series I saw. As soon as I realized they all weren’t .Hacks or Cowboy Bebops I stopped. I think it was around the time I saw Chobits and Ichigo 100% (guilty as charged).
